While surveying students in the US, George Barna discovered that 75% of them believe that one of the central themes in the Bible is that God helps those who help themselves. This number must be inflated by people who think more highly of themselves than I do, because if God only helps those who help themselves, I would be in trouble. There are so many things that I can't do without God's help. I don't know how to love people who bug me, but He teaches me. I don't know how to overcome anger and have a healthy thought life. When it comes down to it, I realize that I can't do much on my own, but I can do all things through Christ. Without Him, I wouldn't know where I was going to spend eternity either. The Bible teaches that unless you recognize your need for a savior, you are doomed. It teaches that human beings were trapped in their sin unable to help themselves until God stepped in by sending Jesus to die. If you don't acknowlede your need for Jesus and surrender to Him, you will be separated from God for eternity. "God helps those who help themselves," in reality, " God helps those who can't help themselves." © 2006 Champion Ministries dba Groundwire |
