Last week the All Star baseball game was played in Anaheim, CA. Fans voted in their favorite players into each field position for both the American and National league. In the end the National League reigned supreme with a 3-1 victory. Before the game began, there were several other all stars honored as well who were sponsored by People Magazine. These All Stars were everyday people with non-profit organizations being honored for extraordinary service to their community. These people were honored because they touch lives everyday. It is such a diverse group of organizations; from babies to horses. Nikki Berti, one of the Every Day All Stars, and her foundation, Goodie Two Shoes, collects children’s shoes and distributes them from a 48 foot mobile home converted to a shoe shop. Mitch Arnold, who is 13, started Peace Is The Goal, which ships soccer equipment to 35 countries and inside the US to help start soccer programs. Sharon Mason has Equine Dreams that donates therapeutic horse back riding. That’s a small sampling of the 30 people who stood along side the baseball player from the team they represented in the All Star game. It was stated by one of the Everyday All Stars that none of them expected to have this kind of honor given to what they do. God, too, uses ordinary people. He used a fisherman named Peter to begin the modern church. He used a simple shepherd, David, to be a king. God used a young woman named Esther to save an entire nation from being killed and there was a poor widow named Ruth in Jesus’ lineage. They were just ordinary people, but they changed history. God wants to use you, too, to change history and touch lives. It would be easy at this juncture to say, “but I don’t have anything God can use.” That’s not true. Many of the Everyday All Stars begin their organizations out of adversity. Yours might start out of your adversity but it doesn’t have to start there. God created you so He can use what He’s put into you. He’s waiting for you to open your heart and mind to see and feel the hurt around you and do something about it. Let God use you to touch one life today.
