Verse of the Day

He's big even in the little things | Print |  E-mail

So, the other day I went to our local outlet mall. It was filled to the brim with very cool things that I usually wouldn’t be able to afford.  But, because I had driven out to the far reaches of the earth, there it all was, priced just right.  I went into the mall, found what I came for, and was ready to head home.

Hmmm, there seem to be a lot of ways to get out of this mall.

Hmmm, which exit will take me to my car?

All of these stores are starting to look the same.

I don’t know which way to go.

This place is big.

At this point, I would usually go into full-blown fight or flight.  Panic would ensue and emotional mayhem would result.  This time, though, the Lord had prepared me by having me memorize some Bible verses.  As I felt the “I’ll-be-lost-forever” panic set in, He reminded me that I had some truth stuck in my head that might be able to help.  So, I asked Him, point blank, “Okay, Lord, I’m about to lose it…what Bible verse would work here?”

I ran through the brief list in my head that I had learned in the last month not really expecting one to help me find my car.  My mind landed on Psalm 115:11, “You who fear Him, trust in the Lord, for He is their help and shield.”  Help…I could use that.  So, I started praying it back to Him.  “Lord, I need Your help to find my car.  I need You to shield me from the panic that I can feel coming over me.   Please be my help and shield.”

Guess what?  As I was praying, I walked right out to my car.  No panic involved.

Now losing a car may not be a big deal compared to a lot of the huge things going on out there, but our God is a God of the big and little things.  My fear was real to me at the time, and it is something I’ve struggled with for a really long time.  I love how the Lord met me in the moment of my fear and led me out using His Word.  It’s what He promises to do, be there, always, in the big and little things.

What is something “little” that He can help you with today?
