A different view of freedom | Print |  E-mail

People long for freedom. Fight for it. Debate about it. Yet many search their entire lives and never discover the true source of freedom.

I am not talking about political freedom, financial freedom, or freedom of expression. I am referring to spiritual freedom-- emotional freedom. A lifestyle, a peace, and a hope that affects every area of a person¹s life. Liberty that relieves the spirit and soul of a man or woman.

This kind of freedom brings purpose. This type allows someone to become the person that they were created to be. It frees them to build solid foundations in their lives and healthy perspectives that will provide stability.

And, this kind of freedom can only be found in surrender. Not a surrender that indicates weakness, but that which helps you discover strength. In this type of surrender, you are not admitting defeat, you are admitting dependency. And rather that being thrown in a dungeon or a stockade once you have relinquished power, after you surrender, you immediately join the ranks
of the one that you surrender to. Everything that is His becomes yours.

His strength is available to help you fight your battles and it will overshadow your weaknesses.

Through a willful and deliberate act of surrender, you accept the boundaries of the One in charge.

Although these may look constricting to people that don¹t know God, when you receive His instruction, you will walk in a land of plenty. Territory that is rich in blessing, perfect in protection, and saturated with meaningful relationship with the Father.

Those that refuse to surrender, that refuse to receive the correction of, conviction of, and leading of the Holy Spirit in their lives will continue to fight for their rights. But, they will discover that they can¹t hold onto the things that they work so hard to embrace.

They will discover that they are in lonely and isolated places that bring confusion, frustration, and danger. They may convince themselves that they are strong enough to tackle these problems, but the journey will prove too painful. God will use circumstances, situations, and relationships to remind them that He created them to surrender.

If you want to experience the life of God in all of it¹s abundance, then you must begin with surrender. And, it is not simply a well-articulated prayer that positions you for such a beautiful exchange. It must start there, but go deeper than that.

As you relinquish your rights and embrace His standards, then you are on your way. When you abandon your will for His, you are making progress.

And, only when you hand over your freedom will you truly be free.
